“I Tried Wearing Eye-Tracking Glasses and Here’s What I Learned About My Screen Time”

“I know that I spend a lot of time in front of a screen, but a quantitative analysis of that is shocking.”

At the end of each day, Sadia, a digital product specialist, feels the effects of her 10-plus hours of screen-time on her body. “I can definitely feel my eyes getting tired; sometimes I’ll feel a migraine coming on,” she says. That exhaustion is a direct result of the time she spends on screens due to her job, her graduate school work, and her digital social life.

To better understand exactly how this behavior affects her physical and mental health, and impacts her ability to relate and engage with others, Sadia is trying out a pair of eye-tracking glasses, which, among other things, provide information on how and where you’re focusing your gaze throughout the day. They also record how long it takes for your focus to shift from, say,  the glow of your smartphone screen to another person.

In this video, Sadia discusses what she learned from wearing the glasses, as well as the Microsteps she’s taking to address her results. Watch the full video to see how you can make smart, tiny, and actionable behavior changes in your own life, too.
